  • The Greater Roanoke Workforce Development Board (GRWDB) offers employment and training services to help you find a job and keep a job. We want to help you make important steps towards your career goals and find long-term, well-paying employment. Through our programs, we can help with a variety of things including, but not limited to:

    • Job search, including assistance with job applications
    • Creating a resume
    • Help with interview preparation
    • Learning a new or updated skill
    • Internship and work experience opportunities
    • Supportive services while in training
    • Connections with top employers looking for talent
    • Financial literacy, including budgeting
    • ....and more!

    The purpose of this interest form is to get to know you, find out what you need help with to find a job, and to help get you to the best place to get help. Once we receive your interest form, staff will be in contact within 48-business hours.

    If you are interested in receiving assistance with training or tuition through the GRWDB, and have already identified a training program and provider you are interested in, this form must be submitted at least two (2) weeks before the training start date.

    Training funds are not guaranteed and suitability for the WIOA Title I program and training funds is determined on a case-by-case basis. Please know that these programs are not entitlement programs. They are also not financial aid or scholarship programs for training.

  • Youth Bootcamps

  • We are excited to host a wide range of boot camps in Summer 2025! Please see the following description of the dates, times, topics, and restrictions of the camps this summer. All of the camps have eligibility requirements and a staff member will call to discuss your situation and ensure you meet the requirements for attendance. Each student who successfully completes a boot camp will receive an incentive payment upon completion of the week long boot camp!

    Career Quest 2 Go: Join us for a week long adventure exploring all of the jobs in the industries that are growing right here in the Roanoke Valley. Students will learn how to get ready for their first job, take field trips to employers in high-demand fields, and get to use virtual reality to explore other careers!

    • June 9th - June 13th, 2025: This camp is only available to youth ages 14-15 who live in the City of Roanoke. This week long camp will run from 9:00AM to 1:00PM, Monday through Friday. The camp will be held at the Envision Center, which is the old Melrose Library, located at 2607 Salem Turnpike NW, Roanoke, VA 24017.

    City Builders Camp: Infrastructure is the basic structures and operations that make a city, county, or country run. It also requires a lot of people to make it work - in jobs such Heavy Equipment Operators, Electrical Lineworkers, Fiber-optic Cable Installers, Engineers, Software Developers, and more! Learn about various jobs in this field, meet with employers to learn about their job openings and what they are looking for in a new employee, and earn an industry-recognized credential through Virginia Western Community College!

    • June 2nd - June 7th, 2025: This camp is only for eligible youth ages 16+ who are not enrolled in school. This does not include individuals who are enrolled in GED or High School Equivalency classes. The camp will run from 9:00AM to 3:30PM, Monday through Friday. The camp will be held at Greenfield Education Center located at 57 S. Center Drive, Daleville, VA 24083.
    • June 23rd - June 27th: This camp is only for eligible youth ages 16+ who are residents of the City of Roanoke. The camp will run from 9:00AM to 3:30PM, Monday through Friday. The camp will be held at Virginia Western Community College, located at 3094 Colonial Ave SW, Roanoke, VA 24015.

    Healthcare Heroes Camp: Ever wondered what it’s like to work in healthcare? As one of the fastest growing industries in the region, there are so many jobs available! At this camp you will team up with others your age, get creative solving real-life problems, and pitch your own idea like you're on Shark Tank. 

    • July 7th - July 11th, 2025: This camp is only for eligible youth ages 16+ who are residents of the City of Roanoke. The camp will run from 9:00AM to 3:30PM, Monday through Friday. The camp will be held at Virginia Western Community College, located at 3094 Colonial Ave SW, Roanoke, VA 24015.

    Makers to Machines Camp: Like building things or figuring out how stuff works? At Career Quest: Makers & Machines, you’ll team up to explore the world of modern manufacturing, take on creative challenges, and design something awesome together. It’s hands-on, high-energy, and way more fun than just sitting in a classroom!

    • July 21st - July 25th, 2025: This camp is only for eligible youth ages 16+ who are residents of the City of Roanoke. The camp will run from 9:00AM to 3:30PM, Monday through Friday. The camp will be held at Virginia Western Community College, located at 3094 Colonial Ave SW, Roanoke, VA 24015.

  • Because of your age, we will need to discuss your enrollment and participation with your parent or guardian. Please provide the information of your parent or guardian so that we may contact them in the future.

  • Expectations

  • The workforce progams that are run by the GRWDB are made possible from a variety of different funding sources, including federal, state, and local organizations. The GRWDB has expectations for its customers, and if you are enrolled into one of the programs to help you with your training and employment needs, you will be required to actively participate in the program. This means communicating frequently with your Career Coach, providing all required documentation and/or information requested by your Career Coach, and completing all activities that are funded by the GRWDB. We are committed to helping you, but you must also be committed to us from the start!
